The Rise and Fall of cigarette popularity

The dangers and harmful effects of cigarette smoking have been known and publicized for many years. But it wasn’t always that way. In the 1950, 60s and 70s cigarettes were marketed as “cool”. People smoked everywhere. Actors smoked in movies. Cigarette companies sponsored television and radio shows. In fact, some cigarette marketing campaigns also touted their supposed (and completely false) health benefits. In many ways, smoking (back then) was considered an All-American pastime.

But thousands of people were dying from lung cancer (even today, an estimated 480,000 per year JUST in the United States) and millions more continue to suffer from the harmful effects of smoking. But in the decades that followed the number of smokers rapidly declined – thanks to health education, government legislation, lawsuits against cigarette companies and an overwhelming change in public perception. But millions more will continue to suffer the effects long after they quit smoking.

Vaping and E-Cigs become an alternative to smoking

In 2017, vaping and e-cigs started to become popular. At first, they were marketed by companies as a bridge for helping people to quit smoking. Many of those same e-cig companies (and cigarette companies that developed their own e-cigs as a new profit center) also portrayed vaping and e-cigs as “safe”, “natural” and “cool” when in fact they contained the same addictive nicotine found in cigarettes. Despite this, a new generation of young people began to try e-cigs believing they were safe and non-addictive.

Fact: Scientists still don’t know the long-term effects of the chemicals used in e-cigs. But they DO know – just like cigarettes – they contain nicotine. Nicotine is a toxic substance. It raises your blood pressure and spikes your adrenaline, which increases your heart rate and the likelihood of having a heart attack.

Nicotine creates an addiction because of what it does in your brain. When you smoke or vape, nicotine goes to your brain and causes it to release a chemical called dopamine, which makes you feel good. Once you’re done smoking, your dopamine levels drop and you may want another cigarette to give you that feeling again. In effect, nicotine becomes an addictive “reward” for your brain as it generates dopamine. That is how you become addicted to smoking and e-cigs.

From the Johns Hopkins Medicine website:

“Emerging data suggests links to chronic lung disease and asthma, and associations between dual use of e-cigarettes and smoking with cardiovascular disease. You’re exposing yourself to all kinds of chemicals that we don’t yet understand and that are probably not safe.”

In 2018 doctors began seeing new cases of healthy, often teenage patients being admitted to hospitals with shortness of breath, chest pain, and fatigue. The common denominator was vaping.

There has also been an outbreak of lung injuries and deaths associated with vaping. EVALI is the name given by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to the dangerous, newly identified lung disease linked to vaping. The name EVALI is an acronym that stands for “e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury”.

Boost Oxygen aromas as a safe and natural alternative

If you or anyone you know is trying to quit smoking or vaping, we hope you will consider Boost Oxygen and our different aromas as a safe, natural and healthy alternative.

Boost Oxygen is 95% pure oxygen in portable and convenient canisters for all-natural respiratory support. Your body, mind, organs, tissues and cells all need oxygen for energy, growth and proper function. The air we breathe contains only around 21% oxygen, and when you smoke or vape you are limiting (not to mention damaging) your lungs ability to process oxygen. Long term damage to your lungs ability to process oxygen is the reason why smokers and vapers regularly feel tired, run down or even sick more often. Boost Oxygen is a HEALTHY bridge to quitting smoking or vaping to satisfy the urge to inhale something as you attempt to quit.

People who vape also prefer certain flavored or scented e-cigs. Many of the chemicals that make up these flavors and scents ARE HARMFUL.

Our best-selling product is our unscented Natural, but Boost Oxygen also offers Peppermint, Menthol-Eucalyptus and Pink Grapefruit aromas. Our aromas are completely safe and natural for inhalation, made from food-grade materials by the Michigan-based Lebermuth company, who have been developing safe aromas for over 100 years. Lebermuth adheres to strict industry and regulatory requirements to provide safe and healthy aromas and fragrances.

Boost Oxygen is also gaining popularity with the cannabis community

In recent years, Boost Oxygen and our aromas have also gaining acceptance and popularity with the cannabis community. From a recent article by The Marijuana Times:

“Enhance your experience with Boost Oxygen – portable 95% pure supplemental oxygen that can help you hold your breath longer. Using supplemental oxygen regularly can increase what scientists call “VO2 max” (or “maximal oxygen uptake”) which is the measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen a person can utilize. Boost Oxygen is an all-natural and healthy respiratory support with no side effects.”

Boost Oxygen – Help Is Here!

If you smoke or vape, we encourage you to quit. The urges will eventually go away, your lungs and body will begin to recover, and you will feel more energized every day as you are able to better process oxygen in your body.
